Privacy policy

This policy explains how tipstir labs LLC ("tipstir labs", "we") handles information in connection with the tipstir app for iPhone and Android and the tipstir.com website. We have tried to keep it in plain English. tipstir labs LLC is the data controller for the purposes of this policy.

The short version

tipstir has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email address or location. Bills you enter are calculated on your device and are not sent anywhere. Our advertising provider does collect device information in order to serve ads, and that is described below.

What stays on your device

Your three saved tip percentages, your ad-removal purchase status and your advertising consent choices are stored locally on your phone, using standard iOS or Android app storage. Subtotals, tax figures and headcounts are held in memory while you are using the app and are never written to a server. Deleting the app removes this local data.

Advertising

The free version of tipstir shows a single banner supplied by Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google may collect information such as your device type, operating system version, IP address, coarse location derived from that IP address, and advertising identifiers — the Identifier for Advertisers on iOS and the Android Advertising ID on Android. Google's handling of that information is governed by its own policies, which you can read at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

On iPhone, tipstir does not track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising purposes unless you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, or if you have turned off Allow Apps to Request to Track in iOS Settings, you will see less relevant ads rather than no ads.

On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised advertising, from your device settings under Privacy or Ads.

Your privacy choices

If you are in a region where your consent is required before personalised advertising can be shown — the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland among them — tipstir presents a consent form the first time you open the app, supplied through Google's consent management platform. Your answer is recorded on your device and passed to the advertising provider.

You can change that answer at any time. Open Settings inside the app and tap Privacy choices, and the same form reopens. If the form is not available in your region, that option will tell you so rather than doing nothing.

Buying the one-time ad removal stops the banner from loading at all, on either platform.

Purchases

The Remove Ads purchase is processed by the store you installed from. On iPhone that is Apple, through the App Store; on Android it is Google, through Google Play Billing. The store tells us whether a purchase or a restore succeeded. We never receive your payment card details, billing address, or Apple Account or Google account credentials.

Email you send us

If you write to support@tipstir.com we keep your message and address so we can reply and follow up on the issue. We do not add you to a mailing list. We keep support correspondence for up to two years and then delete it.

This website

tipstir.com is a static site. It sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. The calculator on the home page runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing to us. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of that request.

Children

tipstir is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, or under the age of digital consent in their country where that is higher. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent you previously gave, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we hold almost nothing, a request to us usually amounts to your support emails. Send requests to support@tipstir.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Where advertising data is concerned, the practical control sits with you on the device: withdraw consent through Privacy choices in the app, or reset your advertising identifier in your phone's settings.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
