Privacy policy

This policy explains how tipstir labs LLC ("tipstir labs", "we") handles information in connection with the tipstir iPhone app and the tipstir.com website. We have tried to keep it in plain English.

The short version

tipstir has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email address or location. Bills you enter are calculated on your device and are not sent anywhere. Our advertising provider does collect device information in order to serve ads, and that is described below.

What stays on your device

Your three saved tip percentages and your ad-removal purchase status are stored locally on your iPhone using standard iOS storage. Bill amounts, tax rates and headcounts are held in memory while you are using the app and are not written to a server. Deleting the app removes this local data.

Advertising

The free version of tipstir shows a banner supplied by Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google may collect information such as your device type, operating system version, IP address, coarse location derived from that IP address, and advertising identifiers. Google's handling of that information is governed by its own policies, which you can read at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

On iOS, tipstir does not track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising purposes unless you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, or if you have turned off Allow Apps to Request to Track in iOS Settings, you will see less relevant ads rather than no ads.

Buying the one-time ad removal stops the banner from loading at all.

Purchases

The Remove Ads purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells us whether a purchase or restore succeeded. We never receive your payment card details, billing address or Apple Account credentials.

Email you send us

If you write to support@tipstir.com we keep your message and address so we can reply and follow up on the issue. We do not add you to a mailing list. We keep support correspondence for up to two years and then delete it.

This website

tipstir.com is a static site. It sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. The calculator on the home page runs in your browser and sends nothing to us. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of that request.

Children

tipstir is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Because we hold almost nothing, this usually amounts to your support emails. Send requests to support@tipstir.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
