One check, the whole table.

What it does

Six things, done properly.

• Three saved percentages

You choose the three, in Settings, sliding each row to the number you want. They sit on the main screen from then on, so the common case is one tap. Not everyone tips the same way, and the app has no opinion about which three are yours.

• Tip before tax, and tax your way

The tip is calculated on the subtotal rather than the taxed total, so you are not tipping on sales tax. Enter the tax however your check happens to show it: as a percentage rate, odd fractions of a percent included, or as the dollar amount already printed on the receipt. One tap switches between the two.

• Split by the table

Step the headcount up or down and every figure splits with it, tip and total both. The split figures sit next to the whole-bill ones, so you can see what you owe and what the table owes at the same time, and the per-person amounts add up to the check exactly. Eating alone, the split figures step aside and leave the tip and the total on their own.

• Round it

One tap takes each person's share to a whole dollar and tells you what tip percentage that actually came out to, so you can decide whether you are happy with it. Tap again to put the check back.

• No account, no connection

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. The calculator works with the phone in airplane mode, and the checks you enter never leave the device.

• Remove ads

A one-time $2.99 purchase turns the banner off permanently. Restore it on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account.
